What Are The Different Forms Of Therapy And Treatment Used During Drug Counseling For Addiction?

CONTACT US TODAY

We here at Harmony Ridge recognize that all addicts are different and have unique needs within their addiction treatment programs. That’s why we provide our patients with individualized plans.

During our intake process, our counselors will interview our patients to determine what drugs or alcohol they are using. That way our drug counseling can help our patients build strong coping skills which act as positive coping mechanisms in everyday life. Our approach is based on three primary components: mental health, physical health, and social health.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive-behavioral therapy is one of the primary forms of therapy that we use. This is a therapeutic technique our drug counselors utilize to help addicts or abusers change their thoughts and behaviors towards treating drug abuse.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy can be effective in reinforcing positive behavior changes as well as monitoring how well our clients are doing with our treatment plans. Our approach has been widely used for those suffering from substance abuse as well as those struggling with other mental health issues such as addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression.

Psychodynamic therapy is another type of therapy our drug counseling team uses. With this form of therapy, our patients have an opportunity to talk about both conscious and subconscious feelings surrounding their drug addiction issues. This helps our patients gain a better understanding of why they started using drugs in the first place.

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy for addiction is the other most important treatment our addiction center provides our patients. This type of therapy allows our counselors to get to know our patients on a personal level. It also helps our therapists understand the particular addiction triggers and treatment needs of our patients as it relates to substance abuse and dependence.

By gaining a better understanding of what led our patients to develop addiction issues, our therapists can provide behavioral and emotional strategies that can help our patients avoid falling back into their addictive behaviors. Once our counselors have a better understanding of our patients, they can also explore the root causes of our patients’ issues. That way our therapists can find ways for our patients to learn coping skills.

Group Therapy

Another valuable service we provide is group therapy sessions. In some group therapy cases, our counselors will include family members or friends of patients. This is so that certain topics can be discussed with multiple people who have had similar experiences with the patient’s addiction. That way our patients see how their behaviors have impacted others around them. By having our patients take time to understand the repercussions of their addictions, our counselors are able to help our patients see how relapse can be prevented in the future.

Dual Diagnosis
A dual diagnosis treatment program is an invaluable form of drug counseling. Many recovering individuals suffer from the mental health side effects of substance abuse. When individuals struggle with substance abuse and mental health issues simultaneously, that person technically has a co-occurring disorder.

Dual diagnosis treatment is necessary for individuals with co-occurring disorders to achieve recovery.  Dual diagnosis treatment usually consists of a combination of medication and psychotherapy to prevent potential relapse. If either the treatment for one’s substance addictions or mental health are left untreated, the consequences can be devastating. This, in turn, could lead to a vicious cycle.

Biofeedback Therapy
Biofeedback therapy is an alternative form of treatment used for our patients who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. In biofeedback therapy, rather than using substances to relax, our patients use deep breathing, mindfulness, and meditation. This helps our drug counseling team wean our patients off drugs by slowly replacing the need for them with new coping skills.

Adventure Therapy

Adventure therapy is a unique type of drug rehab treatment. Our rehabilitation center offers our patients an adventure into the beautiful landscapes surrounding our facility. These outdoor explorations allow our counselors to talk with our patients about what led them into their addiction issues. Our approach here delves into how rehab patients can avoid falling back into their addictive behaviors once they leave our care.

Music And Art Therapy
Music and art therapy is one of the most unique addiction treatment approaches our rehabilitation center provides our patients. These types of creative outlets allow our counselors to talk with our patients about their thoughts and emotions in a unique way that is non-judgmental and conducive to open and honest conversation.

Often, our counselors will place our patients into tasks that evoke emotions in them. and then they discuss what is elicited from those experienced at the end of each activity.

Outdoor Therapy
Outdoor therapy has been proven to improve our patient’s mood and overall well-being. Sometimes our counselors will take our female patients on group outings such as hiking or other outdoor activities depending upon the patient’s preference. By doing this, our counselors are able to help our patients show how relapse can be prevented in the future by obtaining a healthier lifestyle.

What Is Drug Counseling For Addiction?

Drug counseling is a form of addiction treatment that provides individuals with individual and group psychotherapy sessions. It also includes relapse prevention strategies designed to help addicts maintain abstinence from drugs in the future, as well as family counseling or other related services when necessary.

What Is A Typical Treatment Plan For Substance Abusers?

For the most part, our rehab programs here at Harmony Ridge utilize our approach. Our approach consists of our alternative drug rehab approaches listed above. Our time frame for rehab varies from person to person due to our holistic approach where we take into consideration, not just the patient, but also the family dynamics surrounding the patient.

What Is Our Approach To Recovery Programs?

We will perform an in-depth bio-psycho-social assessment in order to determine our clients’ mental health issues, medical problems, drug use history, family history, etc. Our approach to recovery programs allows us to tailor our care to the needs of every single patient. This is because we understand that drug addictions can affect many parts of a person’s life such as their physical, social, mental, and even spiritual health.

How Long Does Drug Counseling Take?

The length of our drug counseling depends on the type of addict our patient is and how severe his or her addiction is. Some patients may only need a few weeks of treatment to overcome their addictions while others may need two or more months.

What If I Fail Addiction Treatment?

Our counselors will carefully discuss our patient’s concerns about relapsing after they leave our care. Our goal is to give our patients comprehensive knowledge on how to prevent relapse in the future through obtaining healthier lifestyles. This includes positive coping skills for stress management and actions our counselors recommend to stay away from drugs. Some addicts may need multiple treatment sessions over one to two months while others may only require one rehab session.
